CIS Registration
To claim a CIS tax refund your first have to be registered under the CIS scheme. There are two kinds of registrations: The self-employed registration and the CIS registration. You must be registered for both if you are a CIS worker or subcontractor.
To register, you can simply:
* Call the CIS helpline: 0845 366 7899,
* Use the HMRC website: https://www.gov.uk/what-you-must-do-as-a-cis-subcontractor, or better yet,
However, before doing this, make sure you have the following required documentation and numbers. Of course, you don’t want to face any problems, do you?
* Full name
* Address
* Telephone Number
* Date of Birth
* National Insurance Number
* UTR (Unique Taxpayer Reference Number) if you have one,
* VAT registration number (If you’re registered).
If you want to register as a sole trader or as another type of business, you need to follow the instructions that are given on the website here: https://www.gov.uk/what-you-must-do-as-a-cis-subcontractor/how-to-register.
